The technology centre and the artist Amaia Vicente have jointly developed a piece called “Exografías”, an exoskeleton that can be controlled by eye movements. The end result will be on display at Tabakalera from November 24 until February 4 2024.
Tekniker is involved in an art exhibition called “Genius machines. Jakintzen bidegurutzean”, open to the general public since November 24 until February 2024 at Tabakalera, the International Centre of Contemporary Culture in San Sebastián.
It was last year when the technology centre collaborated with an artist called Amaia Vicente and Gogoa Mobility Robots to make “Exografías”, an artistic piece that features an exoskeleton designed to improve personal mobility and provide physical support as well as enhanced person-robot interactions to allow patients to feel more confident when using this technology.
In order to achieve this goal, Tekniker has implemented an interactive model based on Mixed Reality. This technology enables a much more natural communication between persons and robots and makes it easier for users to process the orders to be given to control exoskeleton movements.
The piece features a holographic interface that allows users to control the robot with their eyes so that the exoskeleton can interpret and execute the orders given with absolute accuracy.
Thanks to this innovative solution, Tekniker has made it possible to control the exoskeleton in a completely natural, discreet and intuitive manner and for which no manual controls are required. This approach is fully in line with Tekniker’s continuous commitment in terms of collaborative robotics geared towards achieving a smoother connection between persons and technology.
Bringing art & science together
Tekniker’s participation in this exhibition represents the organisation’s third collaborative action carried out with Tabakalera which, on this particular occasion, will take place under the umbrella of the programme implemented by the Creative Impact Research Centre (CIRCE) with the support of the German government to boost actions related to Art, Science, Technology and Society.
The current aim of this project is to look into the relationship that exists between Art, Science, Technology and Society. There are also several other organisations involved such as BCC Innovation, the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) and the Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL).
The exhibition, that showcases the end result of the creative work carried out by four artists and four scientific researchers, opened on Thursday November 23. The event was attended by Tekniker staff involved in the project and the director general of the organisation, Luis Uriarte.
The following guests were also present: Bingen Zupiria, the regional minister for Culture and Language Policies of the Basque Government; Ane Insausti, provincial councillor for Economic Development and Strategic projects, Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa; Edurne Ormazabal, director general of Tabakalera; Clara Montero, cultural director of Tabakalera; María Ptqk, curator of the exhibition; Teresa Koloma Beck, from CIRCE; Txomin Romero, director of the DIPC Supercomputation Centre; Manuel Carreiras, scientific director of BCBL and Begoña Rodríguez, director of BCC Innovation.
